The Locker Room

Just words wouldn’t do my story the justice it deserved.

I wrote an in-depth story about social issues in sports covering four pages of the most recent fall edition of the magazine for The Bridge. Since the subject matters discussed in the story were complex and sophisticated, I knew a visual element to supplement them was vital to getting across the right tone and message. After an extensive search for a suitable location and model amongst the athletes at Bridgeland, I was able to bring my vision to life.

I used the photos in black-and-white in the story because I felt it gave the story a clean, minimalistic look amidst the complex topics discussed. The contrast of the eye black using a black-and-white preset in Adobe Lightroom also appealed to me as that was my main point of emphasis. Even after carefully adjusting my camera settings during the shoot to make sure I would have the desired details, I made sure to pick a preset that was bright enough to accurately represent the model when sending these photos to be printed in the magazine.
