Feature stories hold a special place in my heart.
Features push me to truly explore the human condition and extend beyond the who, what, when, where and why. I use to dread setting up interviews for a piece, worrying about what icebreaker to start with or if my questions were good enough. Through more experience and growth, I have become confident in not only my interviewing but my ability to showcase untold stories in a unique, bright light.

Megan Nestor’s story had already captivated the collegiate women’s basketball sphere for the 2025-2026 season. The NCAA Division I leader in rebounds per game had started playing basketball four years prior, spending her youth in St. Lucia playing netball. I challenged myself to tell her story in its entirety, and in a way fans hadn’t heard it before, doing so by finding international sources and seeking out nuanced insight.

I broke the news that the first and only North Texas women’s soccer head coach, John Hedlund, planned to retire following the 2026 season. Hedlund currently holds the highest career win percentage and total wins in school history across all sports with over three decades at the helm. In a long-form profile, I explored what it takes to become the winningest coach in North Texas history, delving into each chapter of his career.
SOPHOMORE WIDE RECEIVER MILES COLEMAN BECOMES IMPACT PLAYER FOR NORTH TEXAS
In my first feature story on the football beat, the first person I wanted to write about was Miles Coleman, an athlete that I felt was a “sleeping giant” on the roster. Through this story, I highlighted not only his potential on the field but the road he took to get to that point, a story of overcoming odds and connecting with those around him.

Names like Drew Mestemaker and Caleb Hawkins headlined the conversation around the 2025 Mean Green offense. Anchoring that offense with young talent was fifth-year senior Gabe Blair, an offensive lineman who was a crucial piece to North Texas’ scoring prowess. His reserved personality posed a juxtaposition to his collegiate journey, with a complicated recruiting experience, a season-ending injury and a new chapter of fatherhood.
