SPORTS

In Texas, sports are king.

Athletics play a huge role not just in my life but in the lives of others as well. Creating content about sports for the community is imperative to me. I know garnering as much involvement in my school’s sports and the sports world as a whole can bring us all together. From game recaps to a lighthearted piece about sports memes, I thoroughly enjoy covering what’s in fair territory.

BRIDGELAND VS CY PARK FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Bridgeland and Cy Park in 2021 was one of the most anticipated matchups of the entire season state-wide. Media members from all around the state packed the sidelines to watch two of the most dynamic players in the entire nation face off, Bridgeland’s Conner Weigman, and Cy Park’s Harold Perkins. Fast forward a few years later, and the hype was worth it, as Weigman and Perkins became SEC Freshman All-Americans at Texas A&M and LSU respectively. This game preview was by far my favorite to write, as I poured all my excitement about the big game into the words on the screen.

PROFESSIONAL WORK

BRIDGELAND’S RAFFIELD WRAPS UP PRESEASON

After coming up short in heartbreaking fashion to Rockwall-Heath in the playoffs the year prior, it was time for a new chapter in Bridgeland football, with this era titled “the Conner Weigman year.” The five-star quarterback and Texas A&M commit was now in the limelight to shoulder the load on offense, alongside his favorite target Andrew Maleski. Defensively, head coach David Raffield was tasked with rebuilding his defense after graduating several key players on that side of the ball, alongside hiring a new defensive coordinator. The anticipation around the 2021 Bridgeland squad was deafening. I felt it was important to report on what that anticipation was translating into during the early stages of the season. BRIDGELAND FALLS SHORT TO ROCKWALL-HEATH IN THE THIRD ROUND OF UIL PLAYOFFS

After making it to two more playoff rounds than the school record, the Bridgeland football team came up short of Rockwall-Heath at McLane Stadium in Waco. It was an all-around emotional day for the program, as the first senior class in school history couldn’t accomplish the goal they set out to complete when they first joined and built the program: to win a state championship. My game recap not only described what happened on the field but encapsulated the emotion and sadness of the Round 3 loss once the clock on the scoreboard hit triple zeros.
